The migration nobody wants to start

A large share of .NET hiring is driven by one problem: an application on .NET Framework, or on a .NET version that has fallen out of support, which still runs a meaningful part of the business. The security argument for moving is easy to make and the engineering argument is easy to lose, because the work is unglamorous and the failure modes are expensive. So the project gets deferred, and each year of deferral makes the eventual jump larger.

The version that works is incremental. Inventory the dependencies first and identify the ones with no supported successor — that list, not the application code, is usually what decides the timeline. Put an entry point in front of the legacy application so traffic can be routed per route rather than per deployment. Extract one bounded piece at a time onto current .NET, run it in parallel, compare outputs against the old path, then move the traffic. Repeat until the legacy application has nothing left to serve. The old system keeps working throughout, which is what makes the plan defensible to the people who have to approve it.

The other reason to hire is capacity for a fixed push: an integration programme, a reporting platform, a compliance deadline. That is what team extension and outstaffing are built for — extra senior C# developers for the duration, then back to a steady team.
